About the project: „Greenery systems for cities meeting the challenges of the 21st century” – Green Networks
In a rapidly changing world, the new environmental, climatic and social challenges facing cities are becoming increasingly apparent. At the same time, there is a growing awareness of the importance of green areas, which, properly planned and managed, can be the answer to these challenges. Greenery is increasingly being treated systemically – as one of the key elements of the urban structure.
Through the implementation of the project „Greenery systems for cities meeting the challenges of the 21st century” – Green Networks we want to answer the questions: what kind of greenery systems do cities in Poland need and what kind of greenery system does city of Lublin need. The main objective of the project is to develop a Greenery System Concept for Lublin and a generalized Model for cities. There will also be created a number of popular scientific materials, available also after the end of the project, which can be used in the activities of institutions, NGO’s and in school and university education.
We are implementing the project as the Department of Landscape Planning and Design at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin in cooperation with the Lublin City Office (main partner) and the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Institute for Urban and Regional Development, the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – State Research Institute, The “Grodzka Gate – NN Theater” Center, the Society for Nature and Man, the tu obok foundation and the Bicycle Alliance. It is also under regional and national media patronage.
The project has been subsidized from the state budget of the Republic of Poland, under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education program “Science for Society II”, based on agreement no. NdS-II/SN/0175/2023/01, the amount of funding is PLN 980,040. The project is implemented in the period: March 21, 2024 – September 21, 2026.
